In this year 2022, we will have the 22nd edition of the men's football World Cup, and for the first time in history, the country hosting the games will be Qatar.
Qatar is a country Middle East, located on the Arabian Peninsula; Its climate is desert, which meant that this year's World Cup was played in winter, as summer temperatures in Qatar reach 45 degrees.
World Cup in Qatar
This year's World Football Championship, which should take place from November 20th to December 18th, will be played by the 32 qualified teams.
FIFA's choice of Qatar to host the World Cup this year generated a lot of controversy. The decision was taken by FIFA Executive Committee in Zurich, in December 2010.
11 entries were received from 13 countries for both finals. Russia and Qatar won and corruption was quickly suspected, but the case was never confirmed or denied.
At the time, FIFA had decided to grant World Cup assignments in pairs, now this has changed and the person who elects is the FIFA General Assembly, and no longer the Executive Committee.
World Cup 2022 schedules and conditions
For football lovers in Brazil, it is encouraging to know that the games will take place at night, after most Brazilians' working hours. The quarter-finals must take place 12pm and 4pm Brasília time.
The games will be held in the winter in Qatar, unlike the other World Cups, which were always held in the summer. This is explained by the high temperature of the territory, which reaches over 40 degrees in summer.
Qatar even devised gigantic refrigeration systems that would make the temperature lower, between 20 and 25 degrees.
However, there were many opponents to the idea, as it could cause ecological problems and also cause health problems for visitors and players, it would be a sudden change in temperature from the external environment to the stadium.
Thus, the World Championship was moved to the country's winter, with the opening game on November 20, 2022, the beginning of winter.
The round of 16 will be held in December 3, 2022 and the quarterfinals, are scheduled for December 9th and 10th.
The World Cup final in Qatar is scheduled for the same day December 18, 2022, with the third place match on the 17th.
The men's football World Cup in Qatar will last 28 days, being the shortest round of the World Cup since 1978, which lasted 25 days, taking place in Argentina.
2022 World Cup venue
The men's football World Championship will be played in eight stadiums in Qatar. It is known that FIFA specifies that the World Cup be held in at least 12 stadiums.
However, the country had to rebuild most of the stadiums, bringing a lot of criticism. FIFA, therefore, allowed it to be held in eight different locations.
The country, before the World Cup, only had two stadiums, the Khalifa International Stadium, in Doha, and the al-Rayyan Stadium, located in the city of the same name.
The construction of the other six stadiums was carried out, with much criticism surrounding them, due to the working conditions there, with many deaths occurring.
